Billingborough Observatory

Billingborough Observatory is a private astronomical observatory in Lincolnshire, England. This privacy policy explains how information is handled by the Billingborough Observatory website and by the TimelapseUpload application used to publish daily Allsky Camera timelapse videos to the Observatory's YouTube channel.

TimelapseUpload

TimelapseUpload is an automated application operated by Billingborough Observatory. Its purpose is to upload daily timelapse videos produced by the Observatory's Allsky Camera to the Observatory's YouTube channel.

The application uses Google's OAuth 2.0 authorisation system to obtain permission to access the authorised YouTube account.

Information accessed from Google

When TimelapseUpload is authorised, it receives authentication information from Google that allows the application to operate on the authorised YouTube account.

This information is used to authenticate the application and to perform the YouTube operations required by the automated timelapse service.

TimelapseUpload does not request access to unrelated Google services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Contacts or Google Calendar.

How Google information is used

Information obtained through Google authorisation is used only for the operation of the TimelapseUpload service, including:

• authenticating the authorised YouTube account;
• uploading daily Allsky Camera timelapse videos;
• managing the YouTube uploads associated with the service; and
• performing the YouTube operations necessary for the automated upload process.

Google account information is not used for advertising, profiling or unrelated purposes.

Storage of authentication information

The OAuth credentials required by TimelapseUpload are stored on the Billingborough Observatory Allsky computer so that the daily upload process can operate automatically without requiring manual authorisation for every upload.

Authentication credentials are not intentionally published on the Billingborough Observatory website.

Sharing of information

Billingborough Observatory does not sell Google account information or use it for advertising.

Information accessed through the YouTube authorisation is not shared with unrelated third parties. The YouTube service itself processes information in accordance with Google's own terms and privacy policies.

Videos uploaded by TimelapseUpload are intended to be publicly available on the Billingborough Observatory YouTube channel.

Data retention

OAuth authentication credentials are retained for as long as they are required for the automated YouTube upload service to operate.

Credentials may be deleted or replaced if authorisation is revoked, credentials become invalid, or the upload system is reconfigured.

Security

Reasonable measures are used to protect authentication credentials and restrict access to the computer running the automated upload service.

No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

The Billingborough Observatory website provides information about astronomy, astronomical observations, Observatory equipment, meteor detection, astronomical heritage and related projects.

Where the website contains links to or embedded content from third-party services, those services may collect or process information according to their own privacy policies.
